Shizuku

Based in Yomitan Village, Okinawa, Ryukyu Glass Studio Shizuku creates contemporary Ryukyu glass while honoring the techniques and traditions passed down through generations.
Born and raised in Okinawa, the artisans find inspiration in the beauty of everyday life on the islands, from the changing colors of the sky and sea to seasonal flowers, light, and the feeling of the wind. These familiar landscapes and fleeting moments are reflected in the studio’s distinctive colors and forms. Each piece expresses both a deep appreciation for Okinawa’s rich natural environment and culture and gratitude for being able to continue making glass on the island.
At Shizuku, preserving tradition and exploring new possibilities go hand in hand. The studio values not only passing down technical skills, but also nurturing the passion and joy of craftsmanship. Younger artisans are encouraged to learn through experience, develop their own sensibilities, experiment freely, and discover their individual forms of expression.
Shizuku is also committed to reducing the environmental impact of glassmaking. The studio developed its own electric glass-melting furnace that does not use fossil fuels, reflecting its desire to continue creating in Okinawa with greater consideration for the environment.
By carrying forward the knowledge and spirit of previous generations while embracing the individuality of each artisan, Shizuku continues to explore what Ryukyu glass can become.
